I’ve always been a deal hunter, and while I’d love to splurge on a $1000 bookshelf, that’s just not in the cards right now ( or ever really 🫠) . So instead, I grabbed this one for $20 off Marketplace and honestly, it’s proof you don’t need to spend a fortune to make your space functional. Is it a showstopping designer piece? No. But it is my little reading nook (pretend reading nook, let’s be real,we all know how my reading habits have been lately 😅). Still, it makes the room feel more like home and sets a cozy ambiance with the little lamp. Next step: wallpapering the back of the bookcase! Should I go for it?

I’m calling this installation The Lake House. The spare room had kind of become a dumping ground (as they do) since we don’t often have overnight guests, but with family visiting from Ottawa this weekend, it was the perfect excuse to give it a little refresh. I didn’t buy anything new (aside from a queen bedsheet) and just shopped my house. Most things in here were either gifted or thrifted, which makes the space feel even more special. I really could’ve taken it 100 steps further, but honestly, this is your gentle reminder that you don’t always need to buy new things. Move stuff around, reimagine what you already have, there’s no rule that says things have to stay where you first put them. The lighting down here isn’t the best (wish you could see it in real life), but I even carved out a little office space for myself in the opposite corner, which I’ll share soon. Will share some before photos in my stories! What do you think? Would you sleep down here? 💕
I had a whole vision for this little corner and honestly, I almost went out and bought a bunch of new stuff to make it happen. But I stopped myself, shopped my own house, and just made it work with what I already had. The idea behind it was simple, I’ve been really bad at eating breakfast lately (I know, I know, don’t come at me 😅). Oats and yogurt are my go-to, so I made this little breakfast reminder spot to help me slow down and actually eat in the mornings. Nothing fancy, just a small change to make things a bit easier on myself.

Can you believe it’s been almost two years since we moved into our log house? It’s truly been a dream. That said, I’ll be honest,I’m still figuring out my style here. At our old place, everything was white and bright, so I used wood accents to warm things up. But in this house, there’s already so much wood everywhere that I’ve had to shift gears, all while staying mindful of a budget. I’ve been slowly collecting thrift finds and incorporating pieces that have been passed down. I’m still hoping to bring in more colour too, instead of just sticking with neutrals. What do you prefer? Colour or neutral??
I’ve been testing out fun ways to keep the kids entertained during summer break, and this water gun art activity was a huge hit! It was recommended to use washable paint, but to be honest, I didn’t have any, so I used the acrylic paint I had on hand. It actually worked out great! It washed off easily and dried quickly on the canvas. We even tried using spray bottles, and they gave us an awesome speckled effect that the kids loved. I found it easiest to use a syringe to mix the paint in the water guns, using a 1:1 ratio. Super simple and a lot of fun!
Not my usual content, but I had so many DMs after sharing this in my stories! I had the boys build their own custom Lego brick vehicles, then they coloured and added paper sails using putty and a straw (you can use whatever you’ve got on hand). After that, we raced them using a fan as the wind! They got to tweak and modify their cars between races, whether to make them faster or just change how they drove. Such a fun little boredom buster! We even did timed races.
